Walk to End Alzheimer’s Awareness
|
Alzheimer’s Disease is the condition that my Mom Mom Ollie was diagnosed with and later inspired my interest in nursing, geriatrics and preventive health care. Learning about risk factors and common causes of Alzheimer’s Disease, as well as the impact of caregiving, helped me build a motto that would eventually become Prevention is Possible!
|
One of PIP's mission pillars is advocacy. Seeing the power of advocacy up close through collecting donations and speaking with people walking down in Old City Philly, signing up volunteers at the annual Walk to Alzheimer’s, or in Washington, DC at the annual Day on the Hill initiative with my mom were memorable and impactful experiences that I cherish.
|
October is the Alzheimer’s Walk here in South Carolina!! Find your local walk here. This year I’m joining Hopkare’s Team for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s! Donate to our team here !

| | | Black Bean Tacos and Cucumber Fries
| Black bean tacos are this month’s PIPs Plate feature: affordable, quick, filling, heart-healthy, and bowel-moving—and seriously delicious! Pair them with Cucumber Fries for a fresh, flavorful side that keeps the meal light on carbohydrates, especially since the beans and tortilla already provide a source of carbs. Go for whole grains or make your own wraps!
| To your Cucumber Fries, add some of PIP's favorite toppings like Chow Chow, banana peppers, fresh herbs, and a sprinkle of your favorite herbs and spices. Finish with a drizzle of olive or avocado oil for a boost of healthy, unsaturated fat and just enough moisture to bring everything together—without loading up on heavy salad dressing!
| Simple ingredients, big flavor, and plenty of goodness in every bite!

| | | Caregiver’s Corner
| Free Resources for Caregivers
| | As a caregiver, going, going, going can become the norm. Caring for everyone else can often mean putting your own needs on the back burner. But here’s the thing: an unwatched pot on the back burner will eventually boil over—and an unattended caregiver can, too.
| Caregivers are at increased risk for stress, anxiety, depression, burnout, and other health concerns when their own physical and emotional needs are consistently neglected.
